IOHA STATEMENT ON SINGAPORE CONFERENCE AND THE CORONAVIRUS

15 February 2020

The recent outbreak of the Coronavirus (now named Covid19) is of concern to the International Oral History Association, particularly in relation to the imminent conference to be held in Singapore.

IOHA congratulates Singapore on its early intervention and response to this very worrying situation.  Prior to a case presenting there, the Singapore Government had implemented a plan to deal with it and their preparations and handling of the crisis have been applauded widely.  Nevertheless, it remains a concern that IOHA will be monitoring very closely over the next few weeks.

We ask that, in the meantime, delegates proposing to attend the conference go ahead with their plans.  IOHA will keep you updated on developments regularly through our website and will notify members by this means should we feel the conference needs to be postponed.

We appreciate your support of the Singapore conference team by staying on track for a June conference at this stage.
